Identifying the exact boundaries of Istanbul’s districts with all their twisted, narrow streets is often difficult, and Beyoğlu is no exception. For the purpose of this blog, I defined it as the area stretching from the Golden Horn (Haliç) all the way up the steep hill to Taksim and even a little beyond.
While Beyoğlu certainly has some must-see tourist attractions like Dolmabahçe Palace and the Galata Tower, it is mainly the place to be as soon as the sun calls it a day. The hundreds of bars and restaurants on Istiklal Caddesi, in Nevizade or inside the Flower Passage offer some of Istanbul’s finest drinks, dishes and live music.
- Galata Tower (Galata Külesi)
- Dolmabahçe Palace (Dolmabahçe Sarayı)
- Pera Palace
- Taksim Square (Taksim Meydanı)
- İstiklal Caddesi and Nevizade
- Flower Passage (Çiçek Pasajı)
- Tünel
