The Republic Monument (Cumhuriyet Anıtı) standing in the middle of the triangle shaped area of Taksim Square. This 1928 monument was created by the Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica and features Atatürk, Ismet İnönü, and revolutionary leaders.

Taksim Square (Taksim Meydanı) is considered as the heart of modern Istanbul, and is also the starting point of the famous Istiklal Caddesi. Unfortunately, the busy square is not what you would call an architectural masterpiece.
